The message is clear – sit less, walk more

Several months ago newspapers featured articles with headlines like these:

Sitting Kills! Experts Say Too Much Sitting Could Be Deadly

Too Much Sitting Puts The Body On Idle

Get Off That Deadly Chair: Sitting Too Long Raises Fatality Risk, Experts Say

Telling us what we already know: the more you sit, the worse your health is.

This month headlines read like this:

Walk This Way: U.S. Out Of Step With Weight Loss

Americans Walking Less Than Those In Other Countries

Americans Not Hitting Their Stride

These articles are explaining that Americans walk less than other countries and not surprisingly we have higher rates of obesity and diabetes. Again, this is common knowledge but apparently Americans need to be hit over the head to take action.

10,000 steps a day has been the recommendation we have been given but the average American is only walking half that.

How many steps a day do you walk?

How many hours a day do you spend sitting?

What’s your health like?

How do you think we can get Americans to walk more and sit less?

I truly love this but I sometimes think we are preaching to the choir about issues like this and it is particularly frustrating that the people who need this most either don’t read it or don’t get it. please don’t stop – I refer clients to articles like this and hope they have the ability to take charge and help themselves – that’s all we can hope for.

    Great Article!
